The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

The model number is APC Smart-UPS 1500 RM. It is attached to the serial port on gorgon. The APC PowerChute Business Edition Agent software is installed on gorgon, in /opt/APC/PowerChuteBusinessEdition/Agent. When the UPS detects a mains power failure, the Agent executes the shutdown script in /opt/APC/PowerChuteBusinessEdition/Agent/bin. This script issues the shutdown command on gorgon and pegasus. The Agent service runs as a Java process. It can be started and stopped using the script /etc/init.d/PBEAgent.

The automatic shutdown sequence and other parameters can be configured using a browser interface. Go to the following URL and log on with username "APC" and password "APC".

Select "Protected System" then "Shutdown Settings" from the menu bar on the left. Please note that at the time of writing (15th September 2008), automatic shutdown by the PowerChute Agent has not yet been tested.
