Information for new users
This is a quick guide for new users of the TWiki.Resc Web.

What is a Wiki site?
A Wiki site is a collaborative website that anyone is allowed to edit. Does this sound like a bad idea to you? Look at
WikiCulture to see how it works! The best place to find out how to use and contribute to this site is
WelcomeGuest.
What can this Wiki be used for?
This Wiki is provided for use by absolutely anyone who's interested in e-Science (and especially environmental e-Science) issues. Although it is primarily here to serve the community at the
UniversityOfReading, anyone is welcome to contribute. Examples of use might be:
- To share useful experience and information (e.g. how to install the Globus Toolkit)
- To publish documentation for a piece of software you've written
- To prepare a document in collaboration with other people (all Wiki pages are under version control)
Registering as a new user
In order to be able to edit pages on this Wiki, you'll have to register at
TWikiRegistration. Registration is free, and the only reason we want you to do this is so that we can keep track of changes made to the pages. We'd also like to know who's using our site.
Getting to know how Wiki works
If you want to play around with creating and editing topics, go to the
Sandbox. Here you can do whatever you like without worrying about affecting any of the 'real' information on this site.
How to search for information
You can either use the search box on the left side of this screen or go
here for a more advanced search.
Creating a new Topic
The best way to create a new topic is to edit an existing topic and create a link by simply inserting a new
WikiWord, which will be the name of the topic. Upon saving the topic, you'll notice that the
WikiWord appears with a question mark after it like this:
PageDoesntExistYet . Click on the question mark to create the topic.
Alternatively, you can just click the "New" link at the top of any page on this site.
How to keep up to date with changes to a topic
You can be automatically notified (by email) of changes to a topic by using
WebNotify.
Suggestions?
If you have any suggestions for improving this site, or in fact, improving any aspect of the service that the Reading e-Science Centre (
ReSC) can provide, please use the
forum site.
