GADS (Grid Access Data Service)

Introduction

GADS is a Web Service that provides a simple interface for downloading gridded geospatial data. It makes it easy for users to download subsets of data in a variety of file formats, hiding the details of how the datasets are stored.

The best way to get a better introduction to GADS is to read this Paper or this PowerPoint presentation which was given at EOGEO 2004 at UCL, London.

GADS is currently being re-engineered to be compatible (as far as possible) with the OGC's Web Coverage Server specification. This is happening under the auspices of the DEWS (Delivering Environmental Web Services) project. More information on this ongoing effort can be found here.
