The Mechanism to Start New Experiment Runs
This is something that came up in discussion between Jon Blower and me. Basically, if we want our model runs to be automatically archived, analysed and put on a Godiva2-type web interface then we must coordinate the naming of experiments. Correct me if I am wrong, but the UMUI interface ensures there is no duplication of experiment names as far as I know. Are we therefore installing the UMUI across our clusters?

- Assuming that we are using different instances of the UMUI server, there is potential for duplication, although we could probably circumvent that by agreeing to configure the servers in different places to use different initial letters for the experiment IDs. An alternative is for everyone to point their UMUI clients at the same UMUI server, but then there could be firewall issues. Or is it possible to create a unique ID which is the UMUI server name followed by the run ID (e.g. "gorgon.xaaaa")? -- AlanIwi - 15 May 2006
