Impact of removed intial sea ice (comparing yacrc, yaebc and yaebd ):

Impact of starting season (comparing yacrc, yaebc, yaebd, yaebe, yaebf and yaebg ):

Analysing seasonal change of mixed layer ocean temp + sal in Arctic + Antarctica:
  • 4 Arctic cross sections of ocean mixed layer temp + sea ice fraction (monthly climate means): Fig Mar, Fig Jun, Fig Sep, Fig Dec
  • 4 Antarctic cross sections of ocean mixed layer temp + sea ice fraction (monthly climate means): Fig Mar, Fig Jun, Fig Sep, Fig Dec
  • 4 Arctic cross sections of ocean mixed layer sal + sea ice fraction (monthly climate means): Fig Mar, Fig Jun, Fig Sep, Fig Dec
  • 4 Antarctic cross sections of ocean mixed layer sal + sea ice fraction (monthly climate means): Fig Mar, Fig Jun, Fig Sep, Fig Dec
  • Cross section diff plots between March and September: Tocean Arctic, Tocean Antarctica, Sal Arctic, Sal Antarctica
  • >>> no ocean temp changes below 350m, max ocean temp near sfc in areas in which sea ice occurs in wintertime: ~ 3deg C
  • >>> new sensi exp without initial sea ice and min ocean temp of 3deg C for depths between 3000m and 0m (10 uppermost layers): yaebj and yaebk

Impact of modified ocean temperature (comparing yacrc, yaebf, yaebg, yaebj and yaebk ):

  • >>> Different behaviour between both hemispheres:
    • N-Hemi:
      > Relaxation time for ice area and ocean temp at 5m: ~ 5 years
      > Very stable stratificaiton in the uppermost ocean
      > Sea ice recovers fast, but higher ocean temp remains at depths betw. 50 and 200m
      > After 12 years: lower ice conc in central Arctic, but more sea ice in northern North Atlantic with reduced ocean temp and salinity (no complete recovery)
    • S-Hemi:
      > Relaxation time for ice area and ocean temp at 5m as well as 200m: ~ 8 years
      > Due to unstable stratification whole oceean column has to be cooled before sea ice recovers
      > After 12 years: only small diffs between yaebj and yacrc
