Ideas for Anomaly Assimilation Experiments

Here is a list of ideas for the kind of experiments we could do with the anomaly assimilation system. They are based on doing an ensemble with the assimilated anomalies and comparing it with an ensemble without the anomaly. Feel free to add your own ideas.

• Assimilating observations: Selected upper ocean heat anomalies (eg. Atlantic only) or the impact of ARGO-data would be obvious ideas.

• SST gradients: these could have large effects in the climate

• What anomalies do we need to assimilate to predict decadal changes in the NAO?

• Companion experiments to the anomaly experiments (see ExperimentFormulation).
