Introduction
This wiki is intended to be a repository of information about the computing facilities at ESSC. Please contribute to the
Information Sharing section by adding new information and correcting or updating existing information. The information in the information sharing section can only be read and edited by registered ESSC staff and students, who must first login to the wiki system before being able to access the information. Despite this password protection,
it is important not to put up any information relating to user accounts or passwords.
ESSC staff and students are invited to join the
ESSCcomputing Google Groups mailing list. To join the group you must first set up a Google Account using an existing e-mail address you use regulary, your Reading University address for example. This does NOT require you to enter any personal details or to sign up for a Google e-mail account. If you already have a Google account (if you have registered to use Google Calendars for example) you can use that. To create a new Google Account, go to
http://groups.google.co.uk and click on the "Sign In" link in the top right. There you can go to "Create an account now". When you have created your account you can request to join the
ESSCcomputing group by going to
http://groups.google.com/group/essccomputing/about?hl=en.
Once added to the list, members' e-mails sent to
essccomputing@googlegroupsNOSPAMPLEASE.com are distributed to all the other members. The aim of the list is to share advice and experience about ESSC computing issues, and to quickly match up people who have problems with people who have the solutions. The advantage of using Google Groups rather than a conventional mailing list is that the group message archive can be searched using Google's powerful search facilities. The aim is for the group archive to become a repository of useful information that complements the information in this wiki.
Messages must not contain any information relating to user accounts or passwords.
