The Reading e-Science Centre (ReSC)

ReSC develops and promotes innovative research computing methods through collaborations with academia, government agencies and industry, with a particular focus on the environmental sciences. It is hosted at the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading.

Visualization

ncWMS

ReSC's ncWMS software is used by research institutes, operational forecasting agencies and industry to visualize large multidimensional datasets quickly and easily on the web.

Intercomparison

OceanDIVA

The ability to compare different sources of environmental data is at the heart of environmental science. We are developing new technology to reduce the technical barriers to common intercomparison tasks in the OceanDIVA and MashMyData projects.

Collaboration

video-conferencing

ReSC manages the Meteorology Department's video-conferencing facilities.

Computation

Computed Storm Tracks

Some of the meteorology department's research computing infrastructure was originally set up as a result of ReSC research and development projects, and ReSC also contributed to the development of the university's Campus Grid".

ReSC was formed in November 2003. Its activities are funded by the Natural Environment Research Council, the European Commission, JISC and industrial sponsors.
